I sliced up an onion and filled it with cheddar cheese and ground beef then wrapped it up in some bacon before throwing on the smoker.

I used signature Trager pellets and set my smoker to 375 degrees until it reached an internet temperature of about 125 degrees. At this point, I glazed my onion bomb with some BBQ sauce and topped it with some cheese.

Once my onion bomb reached about 135 degrees I pulled it off the smoker and let it rest for about 10 minutes before devouring.

Ingredients

  • 1 onion
  • Cheddar cheese block
  • Hamburger
  • Regular cut bacon
  • BBQ sauce

Prepping Instructions

  • Make a cut in your onion from the center of the onion to the outer edge
  • Carefully hallow the onion by removing one layer at a time without breaking the onion
  • Continue this process until all layers of the onion have been removed
  • With your hamburger, make a meatball that will fit inside your onion layers and insert cheddar cheese into the middle of the meatball
  • Insert your meatball filled with cheese into your onion
  • Wrap your meat and cheese filled onion with bacon (3 slices of bacon should do)

Smoking Instructions

  • Pre heat your smoker to 375 degrees
  • Place your onion bombs in your smoker
  • Once your onion bombs reach about 125 degrees, glaze with your favorite BBQ sauce and top with cheddar cheese
  • Once your pizza bomb reaches 135 degrees, remove from smoker and let rest for at least 10 minutes
