If you haven’t tried smoking onion rings, you need to!  Yeah sure it may take an hour to smoke the onion and then another 4 hours of letting it set in the fridge (or just an hour in the freezer) but it is worth the extra time.

The difference between a normal onion ring and a smoked onion ring is all in the bite.  A normal onion ring has the tendency to leave you with a batter ring after you take your first bite.  A smoked onion ring doesn’t pull out the onion on your first bite and ensures onion in every bite.  Give it a try.

  • 1 onion
  • 2 cups of flour
  • 1 Tbsps. corn startch
  • 2 Tbsps. favorite BBQ rub
  • 1 can of beer
  • 1/8th cup of water (if needed)
  • 2 cups of Panko breadcrumbs

  • For best results use a fruity wood pellet like apple or cherry
  • Place onion on smoker and let them smoke for 1 hour
  • Remove from smoke and place in fridge for 4 hours or freezer for 1 hour

Smoked Onion Ring Batter Instructions
